A cycle event aimed to inspire women and girls to get into cycling will return to the heart of Suffolk to take place in Debenham for its second year. Following the success of last year’s ride, local Women on Wheels organisers are planning another female only bike ride for Debenham.
The route has been designed for all abilities and includes 6, 23 or 34-mile rides, all starting from Debenham Sports and Leisure Centre with refreshments and cakes available en route. The ride is open to a wide range of ages from 8 years old, although 8-16-year olds must be accompanied by an adult.
Jodie Burrows, Event Co-ordinator for Debenham Sports and Leisure and Debenham Women on Wheels organiser, said:
“We are thrilled to bring Women on Wheels back to Debenham, it was such a hit last year and we hope that more women, girls and families dust off their bikes and get involved this year. ”
Women on Wheels events are mass participation female only bike rides around Suffolk that put a strong emphasis on the fun and friendly aspects of cycling. They are aimed at non-cyclists and existing cyclists alike with routes designed to suit all abilities and ages.
Suffolk’s most active county programme is supporting local towns and villages to develop WoW rides in their communities with the aim of getting more women and girls cycling on a regular basis, making a positive contribution to Suffolk becoming the most active county in England.
Colin Grogan, Sport, Health and Inclusion Development Manager at Suffolk County Council, said:
“We are delighted that Debenham Women on Wheels is part of the calendar of events this year. They are representing Women on Wheels in Mid Suffolk and we hope that people in the district and beyond get involved and enjoy the day.”
Other WOW events have been happening across Suffolk since June and will run until October.
