Update from Venture Centre 2000
After a busy period following lots of guidelines and recommendations to make the Venture Centre Covid-19 secure, regular hirers were able to start using the centre towards the end of July. They were delighted to be back in familiar surroundings and seeing friends ‘properly’ once more. In addition to completing a deep clean during lockdown, the main hall floor was sanded and varnished, giving the building a bright and fresh look.
Groups back meeting regularly include exercise and wellbeing groups – Active4Life, Pilates and yoga, table tennis – all on various days and times. We also have self-help upholstery and quilting groups on a very regular basis. For those who would like to shed the extra pounds they might have put on during lockdown, we also have both Slimming World and Weight Watchers regularly during the week.
Unfortunately, many of our children’s activity groups are not meeting yet but we are delighted to welcome a new venture, Harwich Sing Tendring Voices, who join us on Tuesday afternoons after school. This is fully compliant with current government regulations and further details can be obtained from Clare Leach at: [email protected]
Because of the layout of the building we are also able to hold indoor markets and events, although with reduced numbers. In November we have a planned Purple Feather event on Saturday 7 November (contact Val at [email protected]) and a craft fair on Sunday 15 November. Please contact Penny at [email protected] for further details.
Local worship and prayer groups Key to Love Ministries and Link Line are also back and would welcome new members.
We have recently reopened the Ivell Suite. This is a self-contained upstairs area which is ideal for smaller meetings as it comprises a meeting room with a kitchenette and toilet facility and affords complete privacy.
Although all the Scout and Guide sections, including Cubs and Brownies, Rainbows and Beavers, are not meeting yet plans are in place for their return. However, due to the increased regulations, leaders of the sections, who are all volunteers themselves, will need additional help to function as well as they always have done. If you can offer an hour or so a week to help keep these excellent groups going please contact either Mark Jones (for the Scouts) or Michelle Stimpson (for the Guides).
For further details about our Covid-19 arrangements and availability, plus information about joining any of the groups, volunteering with the Scout or Guide units, please contact the Venture Centre 2000 on 01206 392070.
