Update From Stour Choral Society

While members of the choir have been unable to meet in person for singing rehearsals since lockdown, we have been meeting on Zoom for social chats and for committee meetings.

During June and July our musical director, Susie Hyman, organised some live online rehearsals and we were able to participate in live choir practices from the comfort of our own homes, technology permitting. Although choristers couldn’t see each other, we could see and hear Susie very well. We started with some familiar pieces, such as Panis Angelicus and The Skye Boat Song to get used to a new way of learning, and had mastered them well by the end of term.

Virtual choir practices recommenced on September 14, starting by rehearsing medleys from Oklahoma and Les Miserables in anticipation of being able to perform again next year.

We have some planned dates for concerts in 2021. We hope that they will go ahead, but, of course, it will still depend on government advice regarding coronavirus nearer the time. We hope to bring you Stour Choral Society Goes to the Movies on Saturday 15 May 2021 at Old Hall in East Bergholt, and later in the year, the postponed performance of Handel’s Messiah on the afternoon of Saturday 23 October 2021 at Mistley Parish Church. The performance of Messiah will be in celebration of Stour Choral Society’s 50th anniversary.

Our website is currently being updated, but please keep an eye on our Facebook page for any updates, or if you’re missing singing and would like to join our online rehearsals please get in touch via our Facebook page or by emailing: [email protected].

Wishing you good health and hoping we will be singing to an audience again next year.
