The Mix

The Mix are issuing an urgent call out for anyone who may be interested in volunteering at our drop-ins for young people. Unfortunately, due to a shortage of volunteer partners we are currently having to cancel our popular drop-ins much more often than we would like.

What drop-ins consist of

Anywhere from five to 50 young people for two-and-a-half hours. They can be noisy and vibrant or calm and relaxed.  At drop-in young people are free to engage with whatever they like. We encourage volunteers to work from their own comfort zone, whether that is organising massive games of dodgeball or sitting and having quiet conversations, everyone can make a difference. The drop-in team meets briefly before to prepare and afterwards to talk through the events of the session.

What we are looking for in a volunteer

Our current volunteer team consist of young adults from 16 upwards, mums, dads, retirees and working professionals – all with a commitment and belief in young people. No previous experience needed, we offer a wide range of training and support.

Commitment required

Meet up with one of our team, attend a safeguarding training session and then attend drop-ins as regularly as you can. If you can’t do the full 3.30-7pm on a Wednesday or Thursday or 10.30am-2.30pm on a Saturday, we can work around that. We understand you have busy lives, anything you can give will benefit our young people. We only ask that people try to commit to at least one full session each month.

“Before coming here I was immature and unconfident. I have done things now that i never thought I’d be able to do.” – A Young Person

“It’s important that our local young people have a safe place to hang out and know that there is always someone here to listen.” – A Volunteer
