The Circular Art Fair will run from 24 -28 May and feature an exhibition and sale of circle-shaped creations generously donated from artists across East Anglia. The aim is to build on the connection between creativity and the library service by shining a spotlight on local artists whilst also raising funds to support Suffolk Libraries.
Each piece of contributed art is circular in shape and around 20cm diameter. Suffolk Libraries has had an incredible response to the appeal for donations so far with over 70 artists confirmed, including a donation by renowned contemporary artist Maggi Hambling CBE.
The exhibition will take place in the Hub at the top of Ipswich County Library from Monday 24 to Friday 28 May. People can book a free ticket to look round the exhibition, which will be one of the first public library events to take place after lockdown. COVID-19 safety procedures will be in place and there will be restricted numbers. You can book your place via www.suffolklibraries.co.uk/artfair
All the artwork will be available to buy from 24 May with the option to reserve a piece at the exhibition or view and buy online via a dedicated web shop which will be going live on 24 May.
Maggi Hambling’s work, Moon at Sunrise, is an ink and acrylic painting with a collage moon element. A yellow and black painting at 19cm diameter and circular in shape. Moon at Sunrise will be auctioned in a special lot online and will be on view as part of the exhibition.
Maggi Hambling has also contributed a statement of support for the county’s library service together with her artwork:
“Suffolk Libraries must go on….without them civilisation is in danger of disappearing.”
Ella Cairns, project coordinator for the event, said:
“We are hugely honoured that Maggi has donated to this fundraiser. Her involvement elevates the event and validates the importance of all artists who have submitted. We’re overwhelmed by the response we’ve had and the generosity of so many local creatives wanting to support the library service. There is a huge variety in the pieces for sale; from bright abstract collages and detailed townscapes, to beautifully shaded animal portraits and tactile embroidery, there is a piece of artwork to suit everyone at the affordable fixed price of £30 each.”
