Stowmarket Town Council Update
2021 Events Update
Due to the ongoing pandemic, Stowmarket Town Council has made the
difficult decision to postpone the Food and Drink Festival and the Town
Awards until 2022. We have also rescheduled StowFiesta to take place on the August Bank Holiday weekend, Saturday 28-Sunday 29.
StowFiesta is a free annual community festival organised by Stowmarket Town Council. It takes place at Chilton Fields and features top-quality musical acts from both the local area and further afield, as well as family entertainment and a wide range of stalls.
The festival launched as ‘StowFest’ in 2007, evolving into StowFiesta in 2014. Stowfiesta went virtual last year and showcased artists including Little Red Kings, Adam Thomas, Serena Grant, Chuck Wills, Renegade Twelve and Sun of Elvis on YouTube.
This year we will return to Chilton Fields with a weekend full of good music, yummy food and family fun. The rest of our 2021 events remain unchanged and we hope to see you as soon as it is safe to do so. To see the 2021 dates, go to the events page of our website.
A Word From Your Mayor
What a difference a month makes! Last month we were struggling with snow and now we have daffodils and other spring flowers blooming all around town. Even the grass has had a haircut and, with April 12 on the horizon, we don’t have long to wait for one ourselves.
We can now meet someone from another household for recreation and even sit down to enjoy a coffee. Schools are back and I am sure there are a lot of relieved parents. As lockdown restrictions gradually ease there will be lots to look forward to.
I am looking forward to being able to go further afield and the return of non-essential shops. Of course, all the shops are essential, particularly those in Stowmarket. When it is possible to do so, please think about shopping locally.
We have some great retailers that I know will be looking forward to serving you and your families. They need and deserve our support over the coming months if they are to survive and prosper once again.
I had my first vaccination at The Mix in March. Thank you to all the amazing staff and volunteers working hard to vaccinate local people. Sarah and I also paid a visit to the Covid-19 Test Centre at the Museum of East Anglian Life to see how this new facility operates.
It is a very easy process that we recommend to anyone who cannot work from home. Ciara and her team are doing a great job. At the time of our tests, they had already picked up 52 asymptomatic cases! We got our result within 30 minutes and I’m glad to say they were negative.
That’s all for now. Stay safe Stowmarket.
