St John’s Church, Elmswell
Hello from St John’s,
‘It will get worse before it gets better’ is a phrase I have heard a few times recently and it seems it will indeed be our experience in early 2021. I am confident, however, that things will start to improve as more of us get vaccinated but, for the time being, keyworkers are working endlessly and the rest of us are stuck at home again. I have been drawing strength from Psalm 139 in the Bible, which says:
Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
This reminds me that the Lord is not limited as we are in lockdown. He can still go anywhere he likes. His Spirit is everywhere to strengthen, encourage and guide us. Why not invite him into your house? The normal bubble rules do not apply.
Although places of worship are permitted to stay open, St John’s believes it is important to keep people safe and we have closed the building (except for funerals). We are worshipping online again every Sunday at 10.30am.
If you would like a DVD of the service delivered, please let the Rector know.
Sunday School is also going well on Sundays over Zoom at 9.30am. You are very welcome to join us; the details you need to connect to services are below. Please contact us if you would like your children to join Sunday School.
We also continue to meet for Coffee and Chat over Zoom on Saturdays at 10.30am and after the Sunday service. You can find details in our weekly update on our website or Facebook page. Please feel free to join us.
One highlight of January to mention was our Variety and Spice evening which was streamed at the end of the month. Many thanks to all who watched and made donations and, of course, to all those who took part in the comedy, songs and poems. It was a lovely, fun evening of entertainment.
Looking ahead to later this month, our next Zoom Quiz Night is on 27th February at 7pm. This will be a fun family quiz that isn’t too brain-numbing. Teams can be up to six and across households (we will use breakout rooms so teams can confer together) but small teams are fine too. It promises to be an enjoyable evening and all are welcome. The cost is a £7 donation. Please contact John Evans to register: 01449 781251 / [email protected].
