St John’s Church, Elmswell

Just as we were hoping to be fully out of lockdown, once again the road ahead seems to be filled with uncertainty surrounding Covid-19 variants. This anxiety is not good for our mental or physical health. Coupled with images of tragic suffering in other countries less fortunate than ourselves, many of us feel our hearts aching for the world, ou country, our community and ourselves.

The question is: to whom can we go for help, healing and a return to wholeness? During my stay in Cambodia early last year, I encountered a number of people who had experienced remarkable healing from the Lord Jesus. He remains the great physician even today.

As we begin to recover from the ordeal of the last 15 months, we thought it would be good to hold a special time in St John’s Church where people can come for reflection, prayer and healing. We have set aside Sunday 20 June at 5pm. Please come along and listen to some music, spend some time in silent reflection, engage in prayer and encounter the loving touch of a compassionate God who longs for our wholeness.

We continue to meet in St John’s Church each Sunday at 10.30am. Please do join us. We keep plenty of social distance and there is plenty of hand sanitiser. It is good to be together but if you cannot make it in person at the moment, we continue to stream services live over the internet. Our Sunday School continues to take place over Zoom at 9.30am each week.

We held our final Saturday Coffee and Chat Zoom gathering in May. These virtual meetings have been such a blessing over the past year, enabling us to continue to see each other and chat and stay sane. Technology can sometimes be irritating but how thankful we have been for it during lockdown!

May also saw the feast of Pentecost which we celebrated with our Baptist friends in an uplifting joint afternoon service. Pentecost is all about the coming of the Holy Spirit on the infant Church. The Holy Spirit is simply God’s powerful presence with us. Jesus promised he would not leave his followers as orphans, but that he would come to them in the person of his Spirit. This means that followers of Jesus can enjoy his being with us, in our hearts, always to the very end of the age.

If you would like to experience this amazing encounter with the living God too, please do get in touch.
