New Services Based At Red Gables

Later Life Community Connect
Later Life Community Connect is a single point of access telephone line for anyone concerned about issues around ageing, later life and their families.

This new service run by BSEVC is based at Red Gables and will be available from 10am to 2pm every day (including weekends) with a ‘real’ person at the end of the phone to chat to.

Where needed, we can refer you to other support and organisations but without you having to worry about making multiple calls to different places, and we’ll keep in touch with you to ensure you are receiving the support you need.

We can also support you with regular welfare calls to check in and see how you are. The number to call is 01284 334516.

Managing Life with Dementia?
A new singing project to lift your spirits!

We are very conscious that those who are living with dementia or affected by it as a family carer, have been some of the hardest hit by the pandemic and lockdowns.

We also know that singing and music can have a profoundly positive effect on how we feel by improving mood, memory and verbal communication and reducing isolation. To help us get through these next few months whilst everyone is being vaccinated, some new Zoom singing sessions are being set up for those who know that singing helps to lift their spirits.

The first session will be on Wednesday 3 March at 2pm and will be roughly fortnightly (see dates below). Telephone help is available for anyone wanting to set up or become more confident on Zoom before the project starts.

We are keen to reach families who love singing in the Ipswich, Stowmarket, and Bury areas. There is no need for you to worry about how you sound because you’ll just be singing along at home! All that matters is that you love a good sing!

Who will lead the sessions?
Tracy Sharp, Mark Coburn and Jill Jennings are all experienced singing leaders with a particular interest in the benefits that singing offers to family carers and anyone living with memory loss. Based at Red Gables, they will be running the Zoom sessions as ‘Singing for the Brain’ volunteers (Alzheimer’s Society) in collaboration with local singing charity Music in Our Bones. They are excited about meeting new people who love singing as much as they do.

Contact Tracy Sharp to find out more and perhaps book a couple of places:

When are the Zoom sessions?
Wednesdays 3 and 17 March, 14 and 28 April, 12 and 26 May and 9 and 23 June from 2-2.45pm.
