We have an update from the lovely Pastor Michael at the Blakenham Baptist Church:
I enjoy playing board games and Ticket to Ride is one of my favourites. It is a cross-country train adventure in which players collect and play matching train cards to claim railway routes connecting cities throughout North America. The longer the routes, the more points they earn. Additional points come to those who build the longest continuous railway. Five Destination Tickets are dealt out at the beginning and players must choose at least three. During the game, players can choose more tickets. At the end of the game, each player’s points are worked out and as failure to complete Destination Tickets means losing points, care must be taken to choose missions wisely.
After Jesus had been tempted in the wilderness, He returned to Galilee and news about Him spread throughout the surrounding area. He visited Nazareth where He had been brought up and on Sabbath day, He went into the synagogue which was His custom. Having stood up to read, He was handed the scroll of the prophet Isaiah and unrolled it to the place where it was written:
“The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.”
This was Jesus’ mission, or Destination Ticket, the reason why He came. His mission could be summed up in some words Jesus Himself spoke when He gave the invitation, “Come to Me all you who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest”. Jesus’ mission wasn’t restricted to just the people of His generation; His offer of rest and release is for people in every generation.
You can learn more of Jesus’ mission by reading Luke’s Gospel so if you would like a free copy, please get in touch and we will get one to you.
