Manningtree Window Wonderland

In 2019, Manningtree based Grand Theatre of Lemmings organised a
Christmas Window Trail throughout Manningtree High Street and the
surrounding streets throughout December. Residents and shopkeepers made such beautifully illuminated window displays that they decided to do it again in 2020.

Planning for this year’s window trail will be hampered by lockdown but they won’t let that get in their way! This year they also have some Arts Council funding to employ four local artists to help make the displays for shops, or for people who are not confident to make their own. The Manningtree Business Chamber is, of course, involved and will once again sponsor the materials.

As the windows will act as an advent calendar, the first window needs to
be in place on December 1, before lockdown is officially over. To get around
this they plan to start with the window at their base at 38 High Street,
Manningtree on December 1, and then get shops and homes to reveal their
windows one night at a time up until December 24.

They also plan to use the funding to have a small window-based Street
Theatre day on the last Saturday before Christmas, Saturday 19, with socially distanced stilt walkers and other performers in town. Their artists will also have a workshop table on Market Cross where decorations with a message of hope for 2021 can be made and hung on the town Christmas tree at the end of the day.

Once again, the Business Chamber will be putting up the tree and decorating the high street with lights. If you want to know which window is being unveiled each day, a map will be available in shops throughout the town from December 2 and daily updates will be provided through the Business Chamber’s social media.
