Ipswich Borough Council To Bring A New Event To Ipswich Waterfront This Summer

Ipswich Borough Council has added an extra summer treat to its events programme with a two-day summer festival suitable for the whole family.

Summertime Ipswich will take place on Saturday 21 (10am – 10pm) and Sunday 22 August (10am – 9pm) at Ipswich waterfront.

The event is being put on in place of the usual Ipswich Maritime Festival which takes over 12 months to organise. Due to the uncertainty about what restrictions would be in place, the Council was unable to include a Maritime Festival in this year’s events programme but expect it to return in 2022.

At this year’s Summertime Ipswich, visitors can enjoy live music, fairground rides, a gift stall market, an artisan food and drink court and, in connection with Christchurch Mansion’s Power of Stories exhibition, appearances from everyone’s favourite Marvel and DC characters – including Black Panther, Iron Man and Wonder Woman.

A fireworks display will bring Saturday to a close at 9.45pm.

August will also see the return of the popular free Family Fun Days – starting with Bourne Park on Friday 6 August, Holywells Park on Wednesday 11 August, Whitehouse Park on Thursday 12 August and Chantry Park on Wednesday 25 August. These events will include numerous attractions, market stalls and activities to keep the children entertained all day long.

Councillor Sarah Barber, Ipswich Borough Council Portfolio Holder for the Town Centre, said: “We’re thrilled to be able to bring another fantastic family event to Ipswich this summer. Our events programme is always packed full of activity and while some of our much-loved events have had to be cancelled again this year due to coronavirus, we are determined to make sure that residents have something to look forward to. All our summer events have been carefully planned in line with Covid-Safe measures and are taking place outdoors in the fresh air.“
