Freelance Bookkeeper Laura Keeble Goes It Alone

Laura Keeble has AAT qualifications and has worked in accounts for 14 years but has just set up her own business, LK Bookkeeping Solutions, working from her home in Stowmarket as a freelance bookkeeper.

Though keen to work in Suffolk-based businesses, whether sole traders, partnerships or limited companies, working remotely enables her to work with companies anywhere in the UK.

Starting a new business in such uncertain times may not be ideal but Laura believes the range of services she offers are needed more than ever right now and she is determined to steer businesses through the difficult times which inevitably lie ahead.

“Every business owner knows that bookkeeping is a really important part of running a business, but many owners struggle to find the time to spend on it regularly, may struggle to get to grips with what needs to be done, or just find it a dreaded chore which keeps getting left.

I can take the bookkeeping off their hands and keep it all up to date and running smoothly while being able to provide accurate accounts data which will help to understand how the business is performing and what areas to focus on to help the business grow. And while I’m doing that, business owners can focus on dealing with other aspects of the business or even have some time to relax!

“So many businesses have been forced to adapt in recent months with staff working from home or possibly on furlough for a period. Sadly, some businesses haven’t survived while others have had to lose some staff and many of those who have lost their jobs have decided, like me, to go it alone. An experienced freelance bookkeeper may be the perfect solution for established businesses coping with new challenges and for those who have set up recently but lacking the capacity to deal with this aspect of their new business without some support.”

Laura’s flexibility is key. She hopes to develop a regular client base she can become familiar with and support in the long term, but she is also available to work on an ad-hoc basis, stepping in when an extra pair of hands is needed or just to help catch up and get back on track when the accounts have got a bit behind.

“It’s nice to work regularly with clients and to get to know them and their business well, but I do enjoy stepping in to help and support when the need is great. It’s wonderful to be able to take away the stress created by staff absence or when the backlog is overwhelming. I do like a challenge. It’s not easy to find an experienced bookkeeper at short notice but being new, I’m ready, very willing and more than able to step in.”

Many local businesses have been able to access government support to enable them to keep trading and Laura intends to work with them to secure and grow their businesses further. She aims to work remotely as much as possible, using Zoom or similar platforms to meet with clients and to understand their needs.

“By working remotely, using cloud accounting software, I can offer my clients a professional, efficient service without having to compromise the service due to working from a distance. Cloud accounting means that I can be working at any time to keep a client’s accounts up to date and accurate and provide them with all the information they need, which they can access easily by logging in from anywhere, on any device, to see how things are looking.

“Clients can keep full control of their businesses finances with the reassurance that it is all taken care of, without the need to travel to meetings, or having to invite someone into their home or office to complete the work for them.”

Laura’s determination is impressive and it’s obvious she not afraid of hard work!

“I am prepared to put in the hours and give it my all. I will listen to my clients and tailor my services to meet their needs as their businesses progress. If I can continue to provide the help and support my clients need, I hope my business can be a success with many happy customers.”
