Businesses instructed to close or who were financially impacted by the recent national lockdown (5 November – 1 December) have until Friday 18 December to apply for funding from the Additional Restrictions Grant.
During the national lockdown, the Government announced two support grants; the Local Restrictions Support Grant and Additional Restrictions Grant, which were designed to help businesses who either had to close their doors or who suffered a significant financial loss because of lockdown measures.
While the criteria of both grants were set by Government, the Additional Restrictions Grant is a discretionary fund administered by Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils. The aim of the Additional Restrictions Grant is to support businesses who were impacted by lockdown despite being able to continue trading. It can also support mobile businesses who were excluded from the national scheme as they don’t have a Rateable Value, and businesses within the supply chain for businesses who were told to close.
The funding available through the first phase of the Additional Restrictions Grant ranges from £1,334 to £3,000 in line with the Local Restrictions Support Grants.
The Local Restrictions Support Grant is designed solely for those businesses required to close over the 27 days of the national lockdown in November. While there is no deadline for applications, eligible businesses are being urged to apply as soon as possible. Businesses applying for the Local Restrictions Support Grant may also be eligible for the Additional Restrictions Grant and are being asked to check the criteria to find out more.
Cllr Michael Holt, Babergh District Council, cabinet member for economic growth said:
“The two support grants which are now open are designed to support local businesses through the national lockdown and I urge businesses who have not yet applied to do so as soon as possible. Even if businesses were offering a click and collect service during lockdown, they may still qualify, and I am sure that any financial support can go a long way after such a difficult year.”
Cllr Gerard Brewster, Deputy Leader of Mid Suffolk District Council and cabinet member for economic growth said:
“The Additional Restrictions Grant is aimed at businesses who may not necessarily have had to close their doors but were significantly affected by the lockdown none the less. The deadline for applications is fast approaching and I encourage business owners to check the criteria and find out if they could benefit from this grant.”
To be eligible for the Additional Restrictions Grant businesses must have been; trading up to and including 4 November; instructed to close because of the national lockdown or can demonstrate that they have been significantly financially impacted by the National Coronavirus restriction measures.
Businesses that trade in either Babergh or Mid Suffolk will need to submit evidence that they meet the Additional Restrictions Grant criteria. This includes a brief statement of the impact of this national lockdown on the business including detail of significant financial impact, current business insurance, confirmation of State Aid compliance as well as comparable evidence of business turnover for the period 1 September – 30 November in both 2019 and 2020.
Further grant funding for businesses affected by Tier 2 restrictions will be announced soon.
The grants will be administered by Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils to businesses in the region once they have applied via the councils’ website.
