A girls’ team from St Mary’s competed in the county cricket finals at Woolpit on Wednesday 5th July, after qualifying from the area competition. The team showed great skill with their overarm bowling, batting and fielding and communicated excellently as a group.
All the team have to complete an innings batting and have to bowl an over each. They won all their league matches comfortably beating Horringer, Albert Pye, East Bergholt and Westley. As winners of their league they then played in the final against St Mary’s, Ipswich and won.
Liz Clark, lead for PE in the school said:
“It’s the second year running that the girls have become county cricket champions and are a great credit to the school. They put in many hours of additional practise in their free time in school and are extremely dedicated. The whole school are very proud of their achievements.”
The team comprise of Evelyn, Helena, Katolo, Georgia, Maddy, Isobel, Nancy, Klara and Sophia, all of whom are raring to compete at the regional championships at the Essex Eagles outground, Castle Park Cricket Ground, Colchester.
