Minutes of the meeting held virtually via Teams on Tuesday 6 April

Present: Councillors Keith Armes, Louise Carman, Terry Corner (chairman), Simon Downey, James Mellish, Mike Watling, District Councillor Dave Busby, Country Councillor Christopher Hudson, one resident and the parish clerk, Angela Chapman.

Infrastructure Business Plan (PIIP)
Chairman Terry Corner has been in contact with Rob Hancock, SCC Corporate Team. A planning application is to be submitted very soon with an update expected in four-six weeks from 12 March.

Village Gateways
Cllr Mellish confirmed all work has been completed and all agreed they looked excellent and hoped they would have the desired effect of slowing down traffic.

Litter Pick
Cllr Mellish reported 55 volunteers had helped with the litter pick, all carried out in a Covid-19 safe way. It is hoped to arrange a further pick in the summer. Approval was given to donate £50 to The Brook for removal of the rubbish collected. The chairman gave a note of thanks to Cllr James Mellish for his time and effort.

Recreation Field
Fence heightening for safety reasons at the recreation field has been completed, funded by County Councillor Chris Hudson’s Locality Budget, with a small contribution from the parish council.

The post and rail fence had been vandalised; approval given for repairs.

Quiet Lanes
It was noted Bentley Parish Council had applied for this scheme. Cllr Mellish to contact the chair for information after a resident enquired about the scheme for roads/lanes in the village.

Annual Parish Meeting
The annual parish meeting is to be held virtually at 7pm on Tuesday 4 May, followed by the annual meeting of the parish council. Please contact the clerk by Friday 30 April if you would like to join: [email protected]

The parish council has considered the planning applications and comments as follows:

The PC is not sure what they are supporting, or not, as an application for the restaurant has not been received. However, it would like to flag up the light pollution, litter problems, extra traffic and all consequential noise. If the application is successful, it suggests the lights are turned off overnight, say 11pm to 6am.

DC/21/01850: Householder Application
Erection of single-storey rear/side garage and garden roomand two-storey rear extension with terrace and balcony (followingdemolition of existing garage and conservatory). DC/20/04725: Proposal & Location of Development
Conversion of existing ground floor cafe/offices to office space together with associated external works. Erection of security fencing including the formation of compounds numbered one, two and four for three further business units. Retention of containers and formation of a truck wash bay. Boss Hoggs Truck Stop, Old London Road, Copdock & Washbrook. Granted.

DC/21/00625: Householder application
Erection of single-storey outbuilding at The Grindle, Back Lane, Copdock & Washbrook. Granted.

Discharge of Condition(s): Town & Country Planning Act 1990
Proposal: Discharge of Conditions Application for DC/20/05176 – Condition 3 (Parking and Manoeuvring), Condition 4 (Wildlife Sensitive Lighting) and Condition 5 (Biodiversity Enhancement Strategy). Location: Glebe Farm, Old London Road, Copdock & Washbrook.

It was bought to the parish council’s attention that works on two development sites in the parish were starting earlier than the agreed time. District Councillor Dave Busby to contact BDC planning dept.

JAMES MELLISH

Tell us about you:
Originally from Capel St Mary, I have lived in Copdock since 2016. I enjoy history and gardening and I like to spend most of my time in the great outdoors.

I am a keen F1 fan and keep fit with regular exercise, in particular running. In my free time,
I manage open space volunteer working party groups and have recently embarked on setting up a new community Forest School and outdoor education resource called ‘The Outside Studio’.

What made you join the PC?
I have an affiliation with the area and felt that my commercial transferable skill set through running my own business and a newly formed community organisation brings qualities that can assist C&W PC by working with the community to make C&W a fun and enjoyable place to live, work and visit for locals or other people from further afield.    

What do you hope to achieve as a PC?        
I would like to maintain a solid community cohesion with all other local voluntary, educational, recreational and commercial organisations, enabling C&W to be a place that locals can be proud of. 

What is the best thing about the village?
The welcoming community and picturesque diverse landscape.

COPDOCK & WASHBROOK PARISH COUNCIL
CASUAL VACANCY

There is currently one casual vacancy to be
filled on Copdock & Washbrook Parish Council.

If you care about where you live and are passionate
about your community, come and join us.

The parish council is very active, currently with seven
councillors taking on various roles for the council.

There are 11 meetings a year, held on the first Tuesday of each month
(not August), which you would be expected to attend.
There are also working groups. All meetings are held virtually
at present due to the Covid-19 pandemic but will revert to
face-to-face meetings from June 2021.
