Christmas augmented reality animals come to Ipswich
Ipswich Borough Council has once again teamed up with High Street Safari to run a free augmented reality (AR) trail in Ipswich’s Christchurch Park – just in time for the Christmas holidays.
Following the success of the Mexican folk-art inspired Alebrije trail in October, that saw around 2,000 players get involved, the Council were keen to host another one over the festive period to help families get out and get active.
The trail, which is a story-driven experience, will see families track down 11 Christmas animals hidden throughout the park, all of whom are vying for a spot on Santa’s sleigh team – can you help him decide who should get the coveted spot?
To give the trail a local spin, the Council has even got High Street Safari to give Mabel the owl a Christmas makeover – you will find her hiding in the park with the other animals.
The trail is completely contactless and uses QR codes so that anyone with a smartphone can take part – you don’t have to download or sign up to anything.
When families scan each animals unique QR code they’ll collect digital stamps, learn more about the animals and be able to take selfies and videos with some AR characters meaning that players not only get to discover the animals in the park, but actually see some of them burst to life right in front of them.
After spotting all 11 animals, families will be rewarded with a free e-book that concludes the story.
The trail runs from Friday 17 December 2021 – Monday 3 January 2022.
Cllr Phil Smart, Ipswich Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Parks, said: “We are thrilled to be bringing another free interactive trail to Christchurch Park – the first one was so popular and saw lots of families getting out and having fun. We can’t wait to see families exploring the park over the festive period and discovering the variety of Christmas animals hiding there, including our very own Mabel the owl! Don’t forget to share your photos with us on social media by tagging @IpswichGov.”
