Capel St Mary Parish Council
Report from the meeting held on Monday 4 May by Zoom. Present were Councillors Bishop, Bonfield, Bryant, Dimond, Fenn, Harris, Hole, Jenkins, Matthews, O’Galligan, Rogers, Ross, Thomas, Weaver, District Councillor Carpendale, Julie Lawes (clerk) and one member of the public.
The meeting began with the appointment of Christine Matthews as chair and Stuart Harris as vice-chairman. Committees and working groups were allocated.
Cllr Rogers was thanked for his hard work and leadership over his time as chair.
Two new councillors were co-opted onto the council, Les Bryant and Daniel Jenkins.
The floral display is to be erected at the end of May and will be on display until the end of September, weather permitting. We welcome new sponsorships from local groups and businesses at £35 for the duration of the display.
The following planning applications were recommended for approval to Babergh District Council: 4 Homefield, 10 Mowlands, Pond Farm House and Bypass Nurseries. Full details of the applications are available to view on the Babergh District Council website.
Scott Properties has held a three-week online public consultation for a proposal to build 519 new dwellings plus employment units on land off Capel Grove. The parish council has submitted detailed comments and concerns and awaits the outcome of this consultation.
Following a successful joint application by the parish council and Suffolk County Council for Babergh District Council CIL Funds, a new bus stop has now been installed on Thorney Road near Old Rectory Walk. A further application is to be made soon for the provision and installation of new benches and litter bins throughout the village.
We continue to progress our request for ownership of the nature reserve with Babergh District Council.
A new solar-powered speed indicator device has now been purchased to be placed and rotated within the village alongside the battery-powered device.
The next meeting of Capel St Mary Parish Council will be on Monday 14 June 2021 in the Methodist Church. All meetings thereafter will be held in the library.
There is an open session at each meeting when members of the public may speak.
