After what seems an eternity, some of us have been able to meet together for a Sunday service at St John’s Church on Cauldwell Hall Road (part of the MIE group). This was under very careful supervision and after much preparation; and was restricted to about 90 people to ensure social distancing. Nevertheless, it was great to see people from across all three congregations in MIE, including some from Bixley Farm. If you would like to attend one Sunday, please see our website on how to request a seat or call 01473 270978. Please be patient as we try to make this a safe and accessible event for all.
Since not everyone will be able to attend these services, we continue to hold different online events including the pre-recorded joint Sunday services, also available through the MIE website, We have continued our quizzes, Bible studies, prayer meetings, and even a murder mystery game online. We also run online Alpha courses that help people discover the Christian faith for themselves. All can be accessed via our website, along with many other resources. This includes an interesting visual tour of the history of some the churches in Ipswich that have connections with well-know people of faith in the past. This reminds us of the Christian presence in this land and how faith has been helpful to many through the ages, in times of ease as well as in times of struggle, such as our own.
We are also mindful that this continues to be a very difficult time for many and we pray for all who struggle with the loss of health or of loved ones, loss of jobs or earnings, family struggles, domestic abuse and anxiety about what will happen in the future. We continue to stay in touch with each other, looking out for the needs of those in the church as well as the wider community.
Members of our church have raised more than £4,000 for Age UK’s Covid Emergency Appeal by performing a beautiful song and making it available on the internet. You can watch and donate via this link: justgiving.com/deborah-and-nick.
While technology has been a blessing at this time, we have been reminded in our continued reading through the Old Testament that God is very much present in the untidiness of everyday human life. Our experience of church is more than what we see and hear on a small screen.
We still hope to meet and hold more events later in the year, if we can. In the meantime, if you would like to find out more, or wish to join us or an Alpha group, please contact us via: [email protected] / 01473 270978 / www.mie.org.uk.
