Local Artist at the Royal Academy Exhibition

Stella Davis from Onehouse, was very pleased when she heard that her screenprint image Journey had been accepted for the Royal Academy of Art’s annual exhibition. Because it’s the 250th anniversary, the RA removed the cap on entries so there were over 20,000 applications from members of the public this year. A total of 1351 pieces of art were chosen to make up the exhibition which runs until August 19. CAN YOU HELP THE MIX? The Mix are issuing an urgent call out for anyone who may be interested in volunteering at our drop-ins for young people. Unfortunately, due to a shortage of volunteer partners we are currently having to cancel our popular drop-ins much more often than we would like. What drop-ins consist of  Anywhere from five to 50 young people for two-and-a-half hours. A really busy autumn season led to a fantastic Christmas season for the band, with 15 bookings shared between our main band and their training band. Stowmarket Swimming Club hosted its club championships in November and the final meet of 2017 was the ‘no frills’. Over these two galas the club had 37 qualifiers for the county championship which will be held at Crown Pools, Ipswich during February. The club, along with Head Coach Sylvia Harrison, had the opportunity of attending a long course competition hosted by Waltham Forest whose home pool is the coveted 50m Olympic pool at Stratford. Local Journalist Wins Award

Stowmarket-based freelance journalist Felicity Landon has won a major international award for her work in the maritime, transport and logistics press. Felicity, a maritime specialist, was named Innovation Journalist of the Year 2017 at the Seahorse Club Awards for an article examining blockchain technology published in Port Strategy magazine. The article, entitled The Digital Handover, considered how blockchain technology could turn accepted supply chain practice on its head.
