Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline

Words by Link Chair Elizabeth Parker On Friday 29th December, we were up at 4.30am to get ready to take the children to the airport for their journey home. Unfortunately the flight was a really early one and we had to make allowances for the weather conditions and possible delays on the roads. While all of the children were obviously looking forward to seeing their families again there were a few tears at the airports as we said goodbye to one of the best groups of children we have had…

Good Neighbours

Are there people living in your community who would benefit from a Good Neighbour? A Good Neighbour Scheme is a group of people who help others in their community. This could be by giving a lift, checking a smoke alarm, changing a light bulb, fixing a tap, tidying a garden, or perhaps befriending someone who is lonely or new to the village. It is run by a group of local residents who want to help their neighbours enjoy a better quality of life. Each scheme is operated via a phone…

Could you help transform the prospects for a child through the power of books and stories? Local literacy charity Beanstalk has launched a new campaign for 2018 to highlight the extraordinary difference members of the community in Suffolk can make by volunteering in primary schools to support children who struggle with reading. After the children return home at the end of the month I will be leaving for Belarus for our Father Frost…

Connecting Communities

Can you find the transport you require? This is the story BSEVC often hear. “I’m cosy in my room, legs up on the recliner, TV on and a cuppa beside me, but I’m feeling lonely and isolated. My life could be so much richer and happier if only I could get to the local coffee morning and chat with real live people. I worry so much about imposing on busy relatives to get me to my health appointments. I want to visit friends and wander at leisure round the local…

Bramford Tennis Club

Words by Mick Russ Whoosh! What was that? That was the summer, gone, but not forgotten (unlike the hundreds of tennis balls lost from Nicks wayward serves). Interest now moves onto the winter leagues (floodlit and Sunday morning), which will have started by the time you are using this to line the bottom of the budgie’s cage. The first fixture round threw up a local derby match when Nick and Graham as Bramford 1 played Matt and Adam (Graham’s sons) playing as Bramford 2. It proved to be another win…
