Ansell Centre Defibrillator Appeal

As they had so desperately hoped, their defibrillator was installed on Christmas Eve at the Ansell Centre. A last-minute hitch was created by the very late delivery of the cabinet requiring a late visit from the electrical contractor before the defibrillator for Hadleigh installation was complete – ready for Christmas. Their continued thanks for all those who gave so generously and speedily to get this in place. In the above picture, we see two of their major fundraisers – Barbara Breeze and Julie Phillips – with Roger Jay (head of…

Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline

Words by Link Chair Elizabeth Parker On Friday 29th December, we were up at 4.30am to get ready to take the children to the airport for their journey home. Unfortunately the flight was a really early one and we had to make allowances for the weather conditions and possible delays on the roads. While all of the children were obviously looking forward to seeing their families again there were a few tears at the airports as we said goodbye to one of the best groups of children we have had…

I’d like to start by thanking all our volunteers who kept the shop open during the week between Christmas and the New Year. Then there was that very demanding day when the manual stock take had to happen, followed the next day by the spring clean so that we were able to start the New Year in good clean order. On…

East Bergholt United FC

December was very much an up and down month for the First Team. They started positively with victory over Westerfield, the third win on the bounce. There was also a five goal success over Felixstowe Harpers, but that was sandwiched between two five goal reversals at Cranes and Henley and the team completed 2017 with a narrow 3-2 defeat at the hands of near neighbours Capel. However, 2018 started well. The Green Boys were pitched against the favourites for the League title in the eyes of many, Achilles, in Round…

Ipswich Ravens Volleyball

The seasonal weather and illness caused last month’s indoor six-a-side competition at Northgate School to be scaled down, there was no Division 2 competition and just six teams entered Division 1 including Ravens men. They were able to continue their policy of providing opportunities to their junior boys to compete at adult level, with two under-15s in the team, and once again they were very pleased with the outcome. They finished second in the initial pool phase with a good win and a narrow defeat against the two Ipswich teams. This…

Accompanied by Nigel Rea, Chris Carne gave an instructional talk about how to approach audio visual presentations on Monday 13th November. Chris showed  several of his own presentations to illustrate his points. They will hopefully be able to put his advice to good use, when they have their AV competition later in the year. Harold Mousley judged the Open 2 competition on Monday 27th November, with his usual wit and humour. It was a very good night. Unfortunately our wildlife competition on Monday 11th December had to be cancelled due…
