On behalf of the Conservative & Independent Councillors for Stowmarket Wards
It’s continued to be a great summer although the weather has not always played its part. I mean, torrential downpours in July during the 50th birthday celebrations of MEAL, our fantastic museum located smack in the middle of Stowmarket.
Then another monsoon at the start of the Gig-at-the-Glad in August. Despite this both events were well attended with great music helping to lift the spirits and bring pleasure to all. The Orchestre de Cuivres d’Amiens put on a truly magnificent performance at MEAL.
This award-winning band was joined by a few members of Mid Suffolk Brass Band to give us a real musical treat on a rather damp afternoon.
Similarly, at the Gig-at-the-Glad, several performers put on a really good show with Rob Hazelton doing a grand job of getting things going with a rousing opening session. Sun of Elvis in his bright red outfit and the Stowmarket Strummers (pictured below) kept us going through the mid-afternoon with Max Wildwood providing a stomping ending to the day’s musical entertainment.
Brickologists Young Engineers use Lego to teach children and adults STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) in school clubs, after school clubs and school holiday clubs. They teach through play and the children learn while playing with Lego.
The Funday with Lego will be held on the Saturday 7th October, at Cedars Park Community Centre. There will be two sessions, the first from 10am-12.30pm and the second from 1.30-4pm.
All profits from ticket sales will be going to Stowmarket Mayor, Dave Muller, for his nominated charities which are the 1st and 3rd Stowmarket Scouts, 1st Combs Scouts and local mental health charity Enigma.
This is all about encouraging and supporting individuals and communities to be self-sufficient, strong, healthy and safe. More details of how to apply for the awards can be obtained from Stowmarket councillors by emailing them.
Your Stowmarket councillors are, for Stowmarket South, Nick Gowrley & Gerard Brewster. For Stowmarket North, Barry Humphries, Dave Muller & Gary Green and for Stowmarket Central, Lesley Mayes & Paul Ekpenyong.
